Our assignment was to create a Google Doodle for a certain day using colored pencils and the "wet technique." I chose to do National Cheeseburger Day.
One of the very first struggles I faced was the concept of a sideways hamburger. It made complete sense in my mind, in order to clearly spell out Google. But for some others, it was a little off putting. But those original sketches involved a hamburger that was pieced together, layers one against another. So I continued exploring with more ideas. Along with numerous other drawings that went in complete different directions, I tried to improve upon the original idea by spacing out the pieces of the burger. Classmates insisted this idea was the winner and the concept seemed very much like something Google would do. And that was exactly what I wanted to hear!
Once I had the basic idea of what I was going for in the beginning, it was hard to hear that my vision wasn't necessarily communicating to others the same way. So I was more than happy to hear that it finally clicked with others like it did with myself.
I have been looking at "Google Doodles" hanging on the walls in the art department year after year. They have always appealed to me. I can easily see them being used on the actual website. So I am very happy to have finally had the chance to do this project myself, and it didn't disappoint!

This meticulous technique was actually right up my alley. Some classmates were getting frustrated with the amount of time it was taking, and would start using heavier and longer stroke marks with their pencils just to get it finished quicker. My goal was to not see any actual pencil marks, to only see the textures and values I was trying to recreate from the photo.
